Kubernetes is much more than a runtime platform for Docker containers. Its API can be extended with application-specific custom resource definitions (CRDs), and you can implement your own custom controllers or “operators” that adapt to dynamic changes in the cluster. With Quarkus and the fabric8 Kubernetes client, there’s a strong basis for implementing operators in Java, allowing the integration of an existing code base with the power of Kubernetes API extensions. In this session, Fabian Lange, VP of Engineering at Instana, provides insights and lessons learned from building Instana’s own instana-agent-operator using these technologies. You leave this session armed with the understanding of how to build an operator. This presentation is brought to you by Instana, an APN Partner.
